MTC’s IDEA Fund promotes the formation and growth of businesses that engage in the transfer of science and technology into job creation. The fund provides venture capital-based financing to eligible businesses through three distinct programs that correspond to the stages of growth for promising early-stage high-growth potential businesses: (1) pre-seed capital stage financing, (2) seed capital stage financing, and (3) venture capital growth stage financing.

In 2022, Missouri was allocated $95 million of federal funding through the SSBCI 2.0 program. MTC’s IDEA Fund and Justine PETERSEN’s Ignite MO Loan Participation Program are the only programs in the state approved to deploy these federal funds.

In alignment with the recommendations outlined in the Catalyzing Innovation Report, MTC has leveraged federal SSBCI 2.0 capital to significantly expand the activity of its state-sponsored venture capital program. Since 2023, the IDEA Fund has awarded over $30 million in investment allocations to 102 Missouri-based, high-growth potential companies. From those awards, MTC has completed nearly $13 million in investments to 34 companies. From those awards, MTC has closed over $12 million in equity-based investments to 34 companies. The majority of the IDEA Fund’s venture activity since 2023 has been funded by SSBCI 2.0 program capital.
